A few note to parents~

Dear Parents,

By the end of second grade students are expected to demonstrate fluency with addition and subtraction facts to 20. There are three guidelines for fluency: Accuracy(at least 95% correct), Efficiency(speed), and Flexibility(if students get stuck they can use a quick strategy to retrieve the fact).
Our Forth Banchmark (Math test) will be given on June 20th. In the test, “Part C” deals with fluency. Students must complete 15 questions in 1 minute of less, with no more than 1 computational error. (If a student can complete 15 facts in one minute they can receive the point for fluency.) On the back of this week's homework checklist paper, I made a copy of a sample of the fluency check. You may want to make up some questions and time your child at home…

*Along with this week's homework package, I sent home a field trip notice. Please sign and return the bottom of the paper by Friday, May 24 or earlier.

*We are going off track next week! The next homework package will be sent home on the first day that your child come back to school, which is Monday, June 10th.

Have a wonderful off-track!

Book Numbers

Dear Parents,

I'm sorry that the Chinese Reading Books for Green Group this week do not have numbers marked on the cover. So if your student have a book named"漂亮的石头", it's number 14. If it's "火成岩的故事", it's number 15. Thank you.

Note to Parents 04/19/2013

Note to Parents:

1.There is no Math test attached with next week's homework package, because our students had a Banchmark Test this Thursday. And those test papers are not supposed to be taken home. If you are interested, you could come to my room to see it.
2.I’ll make a schedule to let you and your kids know when to bring their stuff to do the show&tell in Chinese. Other than that scheduled specific time, please help make sure that your kids don’t bring any toys to school. Thanks a lot!                                                              04/19/2013   Mrs. Chang

Practice Chinese through SKYPE!

Hello, Parents,

It's been four weeks since the school began again. I've been missing your kids very much and hoping they are enjoying the time learning with Ms. Burton.

Besides practicing Chinese only "in" the classroom, I thought it might be a great idea for our students to make some Chinese-speaking friends at similar age. So I asked my husband, who is also an elementary school teacher in Taiwan, to ask his first grade students to provide their SKYPE user names if they are interested too.(They are allowed to do this by their parents.)
Now we have a name list with 5 students' SKYPE information on it. And we'd like to invite you to go on SKYPE on Saturday, Feb. 2nd, at 8~9A.M. for the first time. (You could use the time to figure out the next appointments you want to conversation with them and also the way you want it to be.  That means-- We'll only set up the first time for you and let you work on it by yourself. Of course, if you need further help, we're here to help. )

If you are interested, please RSVP by next Friday, Feb. 1st.
When you are replying me this e-mail, please tell me your or your student's SKYPE username. I'll give you the Taiwanese students' name list with their SKYPE usernames on it so you could start to invite them to be your friends... At the same time, I'll give them your information by e-mailing them too.

This is my first time doing it, and I really hope this helps.
I'm looking forward to see your children again on April 2nd!

Best Regards,
Mrs. Chang

A Letter to Parents from Mrs. Chang

Dear Parents,

Time flied so fast! I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas time! I’ve been enjoying working with your students and have been very thankful for all your support this year! Next week, we’re going off-track. I wish you the best for the winter break!
I’ll have my maternity leave from Jan. 2nd to Mar. 1st . Hilary Burton, who can speak Chinese, will sub for me. She has been coming to my classroom, preparing for her upcoming job since last Friday. Also, I’ve made all the homework for her to give for the eight weeks.  And we’ll stay in touch with each other during my leave. I’m sure everything will go well and your student will have a great time learning with her. If you have any concerns, you are welcome to e-mail me at: jenny.chang@jordandistrict.org

Recently I tried to upload our class photos on my blog, but even though I’ve removed all the photos from my blog, it kept telling me ” Whoops! You're out of space. You are currently using 100% of your 1 GB quota for photos.
If you by chance know how to solve this problem or you know any other way(except burning CDs) that I could share the photos with all the parents, please let me know. I appreciate it!!!

Best wishs,
Mrs. Chang  11-29-2012
